I adopted a few of them from a friend in Jamul. They are very pretty in coloration, smaller, and slender looking than city Pigeons. These pigeons are of the Homing Racer types. Hopefully I can get some baby birds from them soon. They are housed with my Golden Pheasants. There are too many of them to name...besides...some of them look so much alike.
These are the Pure Silver Pheasants. They can be quite friendly as adults when raised and handled constantly as chicks; no doubt they will come to you for food and can eat off your hands. I bought the trio on May 24th, 2008 as an early Father's Day gift. They are pretty aren't they? This trio is really people friendly and they are VERY healthy. The owner of these Silver Pheasants had them for a couple years, breed them down from generation to generation from stock selected from a well known breeder, but he recently passed away at the age of 69. His youngest son, Andrew, took over the business/hobby now. He is just as nice as his father was. : )

These are the Pure Red Golden Pheasants. The proper name is just Golden Pheasants but since there are many mutations out there, people understand the term "Red Golden" more clearer than just Golden for they would assume that means "Yellow" Golden. Technically, they cost more than any other Golden Pheasant mutants like the Dark-throated, Yellow, Cinnamon, Salmon, and Snowflake because they are considered the "original"; but nevertheless, in some areas, they cost less because its easier to breed them than their mutations. Anyhow, The breeders are 2-3 years old. Still very young and very productive.
Tail Length: 20 - 24 inches
Quick Facts/Overview:
Breeding Age: After 1.5 Years of Age
Breeding Period: Begins in March/April & Ends in June/July (2-3 Months)
Eggs: Clutch of 8-12 eggs Incubation Period: 22-23 Days Stop Turning After: 20th Day

These are the Cinnamon and Dark-Throated Golden Pheasants so they are the mutations of the "original" Red Golden Pheasant. I have a Cinnamon & D.T. Golden Pheasant Pair that my dad bought...which is also from George Nelson, President of The Game Bird Club of San Diego. Technically, its my dad's bird because he bought them : ) Nelson's house has a HUGE front yard Aviary with many mixed species. Rare peafowls are in there as well.
The pair is about 2-3 years old and are in full plumage @ this time of year. Hopefully I can get some eggs from them around March-April. I still need to find out how I can build a successful nesting box for the hen to start laying, hopefully she can hatch them on her own. That will save me and my father so much time!!!

These are the Yellow Golden Pheasants (a.k.a. Ghigi's Golden). The Yellow Golden is quite a popular mutation from the "Red" Golden Pheasant that a lot of bird fanciers enjoy. They look and sound almost the same, just different feathering and sometimes breeding habits. Its truely one of a kind to have both the "Red" and the "Yellow" Goldens running around together in your back yard. Its like the Kings and Queens of Egypt back in the days. The breeders are 1-2 years old. Still very young and very productive.

These are the Reeves's Pheasants. Currently the Reeves's Pheasants hold the Guinness World Record 2008 for having the longest tail of all the pheasant breeds. Some tails can grow as long as 8 feet or 2.4 meters long. Now THAT is something to enjoy. Haha. Anyhow, besides holding the current record for the longest tail, it has a good an calm nature if interacted with humans regularly; if not, they can be quite aggressive towards the owner and toward other birds its being housed with. Overall, I would say its a fun breed to keep.
(Note: The immediate picture below of the male is © by Silvain de Munck and the last picture of the female is © by Ian Mc1. Currently my male doesn't have a tail and the female is still fairly young so I want to show you what the tail looks like as well as the grown female. Those two pictures will be replaced shortly. Thanks Silvain and Ian Mc1.)

This Birchen Modern Game Trio was purchased from George Nelson. He's a very friendly guy; loves to chat about all kinds of game birds and their unique characteristics. This Trio is show quality "SQ" and were bought for $150. I believe they are worth it and hope to get some chicks from them to carry on the good gene. They are about 2-3 years old.
The Roo's name is "Red", looks bossy even though he is a really tamed rooster; kept to himself most of the time. He has a very nice stature at times but I don't always have a camera handy when needed. I named him "Red" because his skin is pretty much red everywhere. Maybe because I named him "Red", he doesn't like that color now! lol; I just found this out only recently, way after I named him...so its funny how things work huh?
Whenever my father walks outside with his red spotted P.J...Red would just follow him, crowing loudly, sometimes sneaking up and attacking him from behind. There are days when he's crazy enough to just go charging at my dad once he see's the red. Haha. He's so small though (25-oz), so my dad said "I barely felt anything, lol, silly little guy". Silly Red!
