These fowls are from the San Diego Zoo when they decided to get rid of their RJF line in the early 1990's. Bob B. got them and breed them true - hobby - to their line since then and I am fortunate enough to get some from him. A good friend of mine with many other exotic fowls. I am pretty sure they are in the "pure to its source - SDZ" bloodline because I have cross referenced with Mr. Wong who is an expert in Red Jungle Fowls. I started out with a LOT actually but I ended up giving away most of them to my best friends and my dad's friends. They are in great shape, BEAUTIFUL coloration and are good pets to have. Even though recently proven wrong about Red Jungle Fowls being the direct ancestors of ALL domestic chickens, most domestics carry the similar DNA as the RJF's. Mines are about 4-5 months old right now and I hope to get some chicks by this Spring. King (1 of My Breeding Rooster) is a handsome cockerel; hopefully his kids turn out the same way.
King's Profile:
Age: 11 Months as of 8/8/08 Body Shape: Slender and tall
Spur Length: Approx 2.5cm Leg Length: 10 inches
Comb: 1.5 inches high but very strong and straight.
Tail: 16 Inches <--- I think VERY impressive Weight: Approx 2.5lbs
Saddle: 7 inches Hackle: 6 inches Wing Span: 15 inches Body Length: 1 Foot

This pair is my favorite. The previous owner had raised them for about a year and so I think they are max 1 years old, still fairly young given that they can live up to 12 years old. This pair is so precious for me to have because I think I probably have the only Golden Duckwing Phoenix Bantam Roo here in San Diego now. The hen, however, is of the Bantam White Phoenix (She's rare as well). I wanted to get a different colored female to get a lighter cross and to decrease the chance of the two being brother and sisters; however, this cannot be proven for sure by just the plumage color.
They are enjoying their new home as I'm writing this and hopefully, I can get chicks from them in the Spring as well. It's a good time of year now to pair up the birds so they can get used to each other and mate successfully when the time is right. I also added in a RJF pullet (Slate legs and smaller in size than the others) and hopefully I can successfully get chicks from her with the Phoenix; eager to find out how the F1s will look like. Hopefully the phenotype and genotype is distributed evenly to maximize beauty.
